Where are the classes held?
I have looked at many venues but nowhere seemed to beat home. Therefore I invite you into my own cake workshop or a fun filled day of cake decorating with the radio playing, kettle on and overlooking my pretty garden

Why should I come to these classes?

I have been cake decorating professionally since I was 18 (22 years!) and was the apprentice for the actress and cake decorator, Jane Asher, at her shop in Chelsea, London. I was taught my skill by the very best and have continued to develop my skills by attending classes myself. You can never stop learning and improving in my opinion. I will teach you how to produce professional looking cakes in one day.  You will leave feeling fulfilled, relaxed and very proud of your work.  Unlike some classes, it will always be me teaching you and there are no hidden costs.

How many in a class?

My classes have up to 5 students per session (you will find most classes have at least 8). I do this because I want to teach students thoroughly and it's hard to give all your attention with any more people.

Where do I have to travel to?
I am based in Knockholt, nr Sevenoaks, Kent and my postcode is TN14 7JE.  Once you have booked a class with me, you will receive more detailed directions.

Car

Approx 5 miles from M25 Junction 4, exit Bromley A21/Orpington A224 (detailed driving directions will be given once a booking is received).

Bus
  • Route 402 bus stop is a 10 second walk from the house
  • R5/R10 (for local people) bus stop is a 10 second walk from the house
Train
  • Knockholt station is a 5 minute drive
  • Otford station is a 10 minute drive
  • Orpington station is a 15 minute drive
  • Sevenoaks station is a 15 minute drive
If you require taxis then let me know at the time of booking and I can arrange it for you.

What Shall I Bring With Me?

There is no need to bring anything with you as I will provide an apron, refreshments, lunch, cake and a presentation box to take your cakes home in. You may want to bring a pad and pen to write down any notes you feel are necessary as only some of the classes have supportive notes to take home with you. If you prefer to bring your own lunch then please specify this when booking.

What Time Should I Arrive?

My classes will start promptly at 10.00am.  As I am a home run business I may not be quite ready for you if you are early so I would politely request that you do not arrive before 9.45am. However, I am lucky enough to live near Coolings Green & Pleasant Garden Centre which has fantastic plants, gifts and a Costa coffee! So if you are early for your class you could always pop in there first. Their postcode for your Sat Nav is TN14 7LJ.

Can I take photos of us working during class?
I am happy for you to take photographs as long as the other students are fine with it. I will ensure that I take lots of photographs on the day and share them on my Facebook page so don't worry if you forget your camera.

Where can I buy cake decorating equipment from?

Unfortunately I do not sell equipment but I do work very closely with CakeCraftWorld who are the leading online cake decorating suppliers in the UK. I buy all my cake decorating equipment, ingredients and decorations from them

I am also the Editor of their monthly newsletter which has a circulation of nearly 50,000 readers so please do sign up to receive all my latest tips and offers.

Which is the right class for me?

If you are unsure of which class will suit your ability, then call 07956 165106 or email louise@louisemakescakes.com before making a class booking. I cannot refund any class fees so we need to make sure you are on the right class for your ability.  There is a class for every ability so do not worry

I know someone who would love a class, can I buy them a gift voucher?
My class vouchers make the perfect gift and you can buy them on this website by going to 'Buy a Gift Voucher'

I would like to book a class, what shall I do?

If you wish to make a class booking, please use your credit or debit card on the secure online booking system. An email with confirmation and class details will be sent to you once the booking is confirmed. I use PayPal as my payment system and you do not need to have an account to use it. Alternatively, I will accept a cheque made payable to Louise Makes Cakes although this will be stopping in the near future. Please ensure that cheques are with me at least 7 days before the start of the class.

Can I cancel my class once I've paid?
You are unable to cancel a booked class unfortunately. Late cancellations mean that the place cannot be given to someone else. You can offer the place to someone else if you cannot come. Please let me know as soon as possible if you cannot attend and if there is someone waiting for a space on your class, then I can offer you an alternative class at no extra charge. If there isn't someone waiting, I'm afraid there is no refund available.

 Will you cancel the class?
In the interest of my students, I reserve the right to cancel any class that has less than 2 students attending.  This is because a large part of the learning is bouncing ideas and experiences off each other and this cannot happen when there is only one student.  I must say that this is a very rare occurrence as classes do get booked up!

Will there be course notes to take home?
You will be sent via email some notes from the class but these are mainly equipment lists and recipes.  The classes are so jam packed with information that I would have to write a book for each one!  You are very welcome however to write down any notes that you wish but I do think it is much more important to get involved with the practical side whilst you are with me.
